“There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.” – Mirabel Osler
It’s a dirty job. I sweat. My back aches. Muscles get sore and tired. I get frustrated – and very angry – when those wicked old bugs nibble the fruits of my labor away to nothingness. But it’s rewarding. And it makes me smile… That’s why I do it. Garden, I mean.
From beautiful (especially pink!) flowers to bell peppers, squash to petunias, it is so rewarding to watch them all blossom and grow – especially knowing that it’s because of my hands tending them.
But that isn’t the rewards I’m talking about. I’m talking about emotional rewards, the kind that result from experiencing a new wave of mental health.
Gardening brings me so much more than flowers or produce.
Here’s a few rewards that grow in my life as a result of being a gardener:
- Peace
- Joy
- Relaxation
- Smiles
- Fulfillment
- Rejuvenation
- Happiness
- Hard-earned sleep that can’t be bought
- And so much more!
Gardening brings me a fresh perspective on life, gives me a renewed spirit, and makes me sigh with a simple satisfaction that nothing else on earth provides.
What about you? What does gardening grow in your life? Other than plants, I mean?
Stay tuned… I promise to share a yummy recipe next time!

Great post, I am in complete agreement with you on the benefits of gardening. In addition to what we already know there is the health benefits of homegrown medicinal herbs. And lets not forget the homegrown flavor as opposded to store bought produce. I have bookmarked your blog to follow your progress. From one enthusiast to another, Thanks
Thank you, Debra! Oh, yes. Lots of health benefits and bursting flavor for sure. Thank you for reading and following. Healthy blessings to you!
