All good info. Iris are very hardy. I'm amazed at how well an established plot will withstand drought and come back better the next year. They are so easy to share with friends too. The only bad part is that digging them to divide is best at the hottest time of the year. Best to be an early morning job.

I've been browsing on-line greater than three hours today, but I by no means discovered any fascinating article like yours. It's beautiful price sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the net will probably be much more useful than ever before.

A florist neighbor has Knock-Out roses that need NO CARE, and come in a variety of colors. However, she'll have to be asked about the necessary amount of sunlight. Also, the roses continue to bloom and bloom and bloom....and then bloom again. No dead-heading either. Keep trying. I too will want to know what else blooms in the shade. Begonias and impatience, of course, are the common ones, but the deer eat our impatience. Wild flowers come before the trees leaf out so bluebells do well and all the other wild spring flowers.

Jane, glad you liked it- and Happy New Year!

Carole, I'll have to find my courage as well as patience~ I'm kind of wary after killing off three bushes now! But maybe I'll get gutsy and give them a shot. Happy gardening in 2012!

Janet, helleborus, or Lenten roses, love the shade. Years ago someone brought some to me from her home, which had no sun at all. She had them tied up in a little bouquet that looked like small roses! Really beautiful. So I have them planted now in my shady areas. They don't establish right away but I know you'll have patience. Try them!
